What happened to Sonic the Hedgehog?!

I remember the old Sonic games very well. They were fun, fast, and were very enjoyable to play. At times, I begin to question what happened to Sonic over the years. What was once an awesome character that rivaled the Mario games, is now nothing more than an annoying prick who's games are so bad and so glitch-ridden, that I cannot even play one without sonic falling through the ground! I am going to make a few comparisons to the old Sonic with the new Sonic, and I will try my best to explain what needs to improve if Sega really wants to save this character.

Okay, let's start off with the old sonic first. The old sonic looked kinda pudgy in his games, although he was extremely quick and gave the gamer a feeling of adrenaline. He never spoke, although there really wasn't a need for him to talk anyways, and he was well respected in the world of video games. And as Sega's mascot, he had to do his best to live up to his reputation as a character. Overall, he was a pretty awesome character.

Now, let's move onto the new Sonic, and trust me, this isn't going to be fun at all. The new sonic is slimmer than his older counterpart, and he has a simplified design. But instead of giving the person a sense of speed, he gives people a sense of, "What the hell is going on?!" due to the fact that the new Sonic games are plagued by awful camera angles and confusing controls. For some odd reason, Sega decided to allow Sonic to talk, but instead of making his dialogue simple and to the point, they tried to make him, "Cool" by making him a wise cracking jackass with more ego than, well, anyone! And they also wanted to make his games 3D, which is alright, but it brings up a few questions, like why they had to cut out his running and traded it for running into obstacle's that you cannot see until it is too late!
Now that I have compared the two together, I will now state what Sega can do to save the Sonic franchise. Sega, I BEG of you, please get rid of all of the goofy characters that associate themselves with Sonic. I played the Sonic games to see Sonic, not a prostitute bat, rapping alligator, or a clone hedgehog that rip-offs Devil May Cry and has more amnesia then all of the soap operas combined! Also, make the games 2D again, you can keep the games in the 3D graphics, but just put it in a 2D perspective! And finally, please make Sonic stop talking, his voice is annoying, it sounds like you paid a prepubescent lumberjack to be his voice actor, and it just ruins the game!
